First, I want to say a big thank you to the boys & girls over at Skinny Corp for helping me out. Seriously thank you!! and thanks to everyone for the kind words and donations. I went to see my Doctor on Monday and he has no clue what caused the internal bleeding. I need to go see a specialist. and now after the surgery, my right side of my body is numb. I can't feel hot or cold. I had a CT scan of my head to check for blood clots. The scan came back clear. So, the doctors have no idea what is wrong with me. I'll keep everyone updated on my status. Health insurance costs $72 a month.

Hospitals and states have plenty of resources for the uninsured. A friend of mine had $20,000 neurosurgery with no insurance. No problem. Just show you don't have insurance and the hospital eats the cost. I'm not saying it's fair to those of us who are insured, but basically we pay for those who aren't. So bottom line: No donation necessary.

wow. i am not sure where you live - but it doesn't quite work that way in most places i have been. If you show you don't have a way to pay - they usually send you to collections. and then they really screw up your life. Donation necessary.

The insured pay for the uninsured after the collection agents get through with them. We all pay, one way or another. Donation? Do what you think is best. Joe, best wishes for a full recovery.

I had a pulmonary embolism a few years ago and I would have been screwed without insurance (it still cost me almost $5,000 when it was all said and done), so I can only imagine how awful you must be feeling. I wish I had more to donate! Feel better soon!

When you've got what you DO require, will you be returning the additional funds to those who contributed? or putting it toward a USEFUL cause (for others)? What a nightmare! But - I used to work in the business office of a local medical center. I know that they have discounts and/or programs like Medi-Gap for those who have no money. After all, if you have no money, what's the point of sending you to collections? There's nothing there to collect. So, talk to the hospital business office about your finances.

Even with med insurance there are always extra costs involved with recovery. My father died recently, leaving behind a string of debts and costs which I have had to cover. He had a will, but got remarried shortly before dying, to a woman who - as it turns out - wants the lot of what he had. Legally she gets the lot, as wills made prior to any marital agreement become null and void. Perhaps I could ask for money to cover the expenses and stress I have had to endure, which have left me without a penny and wishing for better times with no end in sight. What are your thoughts? The writer Adam Gopnik, who was (is?) a New Yorker writer, said after returning to the US from five years lived in Paris, that the lack of a health care system here is one of several things that we shake our heads at but think is just the way things are. While living in Europe, he stopped feeling that that was just the way things were, he pointed out. Anyway, you get well!

As a female, even catastrophic (over $100/mo; the difference depends on the company) is a gambit for me. I ran into a deer after Thanksgiving, and all I can say is, the medical payment system in BROKEN. Even if I had taken the catastrophic, nothing from this accident wouldn've been covered. Catastrophic might've helped Joe out in this situation, but I bet the company would gove him the boot shortly thereafter. Joe, I'd contribute, but my financial recovery is still happening. So again, get WELL. I am slated for a terrific gig in teh fall, and this will offer me health coverage - yay. i'll check back in to see how you're doing then. peace

Hey Joe, I'm a self employed artist with kidney troubles as well. Luckly when I fell ill and went to the hospital I had just gotten insurance for all of 2 months (after not having it for 4+ years.) I could have very easily been in your position and I hope people would have done the same forme had that been the case. Hope the donation helps. I too was critically ill way worse then you. Then get me wrong. I feel bad for you. See, in 1987 I had a headache which lasted all day, then trow up. I layed in bed would only get up to throw up. thought it would go away. I started feeling this pain all over my body which had me yelling my lungs out. My friend went and got my sister Miriam she started undressing me one leg was yellow one was purple. When Miriam called a cab to take me to the hospital. I layed on the sidewalk and went to sleep. Miriam picked me up. I had what people call Meningitis (menningoccal sepsis the third) Don't know if I'm spelling it right or not. The goverment payed all my bills then again I was only 13 years old at the time. They cut both my legs off several fingers and I'm all scared up. Now as a women after having my youngest child my kidneys failed. Again Miriam saved my life and gave me one of her kidneys not every sister would. You would think they would but they won't. i cannot sleep with a fat guy i need help

I have been looking for help myself and found this website through another. I hope you get your debt paid. I have been in need of a miracle myself. Earlier this year I had my first baby and she had to be delivered early, my husband and I were not prepared and had not finsished building the small house we had been saving for. My Fiance died in an car accident, some weeks ago and we had the accident together. It comes from one minute to the next. We was living 4 1/2 years together, she was on the top of the contract for our home, we hade the bank accounts together etc.etc. Her family don't likes me and they kicked me out from everything. I have been very ill and in pain since 1989, finally got doctors attention in 1998, but still going downhill...in that time period my then husband convinced me to give him power of atty because of my business and oncoming surgeries, i did that and while i was under the knife, he used the power of atty to take the whole business and put in his name, moved my offices to an unknown location, took all of my treasure belongings, and much more...nobody would help me, the governor sent me to the secretary of state who then wrote me a letter stating they do not enforce the laws they only make the laws, he got away with it completely.
